Tekelec to Give Two Technical SIP Presentations at IPTComm 2009

Three Company Experts to Present on SIP Security and Multimedia Architecture

July 01, 2009 --

MORRISVILLE, NC -- (Marketwire) -- 07/01/09 -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC) experts in session initiation protocol (SIP) will present two research papers at IPTComm, the event examining the principles, systems and applications of Internet protocol (IP) telecommunications. The conference will be held July 7-8, 2009 at the Georgia Tech Information Security Center at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Dorgham Sisalem, Ph.D., director of SIP signaling architecture with Tekelec and co-founder of iptel.org, and John Floroiu, software architect at Tekelec, will provide best practices for designing security processes to protect real-time multimedia communications, on July 7 from 10:45 a.m. - 12:35 p.m. Sisalem and Floroiu will analyze and compare security mechanisms to defend against eavesdropping, interception and manipulation in the signaling layer.

Tekelec's second presentation, on July 7 from 2 - 3:30 p.m., will examine how to efficiently route media traffic in a voice over IP (VoIP) environment. Sisalem, with Jiri Kuthan, assistant vice president of engineering at Tekelec and co-founder of iptel.org, and independent researcher Ladislav Andel, will present about maximizing transmission speed and minimizing bandwidth costs for service providers. They will discuss the IP anycast approach, a network architecture that allows equipment (e.g. phones and laptops) to detect and use media servers in their proximity.

Sisalem and Kuthan contribute to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the organization that records protocol standards, best practices, and technical and engineering documents to improve the Internet. In addition, they are primary writers for Tekelec's SIP Sessions blog, an industry forum for service providers and SIP experts to examine the protocol's functionality and innovative uses. They also jointly authored, with Floroiu and two others, "SIP Security," a book for technical staff and academia surveying the most important aspects of securing SIP-based services.

Tekelec has made many SIP resources available for free online, including its SIP Signaling Router (SSR) Application Handbook, new SSR multimedia tutorial addressing operators' next-generation networking challenges, and SIP Pocket Guide. The company also has a four-part SIP webinar tutorial series and several whitepapers: Upgrading the Next-generation Network Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV.
