http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12490/7242055?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Wed, 14 Feb 2018 10:06:07 +0000 NAM Visits Toyota Plant with Governor Governor Bevin hopes to attract younger generation to manufacturing. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12490/7242055?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WTVQ Lexington, KY c1 3 the national association of manufacturers... to the newly expanded toyota plant in georgetown. abc 36's ryan schmelz joins us with the highlights--ryan hows the outlook for manufacturing in the bluegrass? doug -- katie... nam ceo jay timmons is optimistic about the future of manufacturing in kentucky-- and is confident the state can provide the workforce for locations such as the toyota plant in the coming years... lindsey grandy started working for toyota not long after college-- i started cooping as a quality engineer. i loved what i was doing so they brought me on full time. i moved specifically to kentucky for toyota. she's just one of the eight thousand employees at the toyota plant in georgetown.. and the governor wants to keep that going-- there is no state in america that's investing more into workforce develpment, into workforce and manufacturing capability, then kentucky. the goal for the governor and the national association of manufacturers-- to prepare the blurgrass workforce for future manufacturing jobs-- that includes reaching out to the younger generations.. we engage parents, we engage teachers and councilors and make sure they have an exposer to what modern manufacturing is all about. hoping younger employees like grandy can become ambassadors to the industry to strenghthen the state's economy... how do we make it better, how do we make it safer, how do we make it cleaner, those are all aspects that we look at as far as manufacturing. it's exciting. we're doing cutting edge technology. the governor also hopes to use dual credit in high school which gives c1 3 students a chance to get post secondary education and high school credit so their ready to go into the manufacturing workforce right after school... okay ryan now how else do they atract younger people? well there's a couple other ways he pointed out in the press conference that these jobs pay extremely well-- so you have a quick path to make a great living and pay back student loands... there's still widespread flooding in estill
